Mary Edly-Allen, D-Libertyville, issued the following statement reinforcing her legislative priorities upon the release of the final vote tally establishing her as the winner in the race for State Representative for House District 51:
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to extend a sincere thank you to the thousands of voters who have chosen to place their trust in me, as well as the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who helped me get my message out to the community and stood by my side as we fought to ensure every vote was counted.
“Across the county, state and country, this election demonstrated not only that every vote counts, but most importantly, that the divisive rhetoric advanced by extreme politicians like Donald Trump will not go unchallenged. There was a lot of excitement this election as citizens frustrated by politics-as-usual took a stand running for office, volunteering on local campaigns, or becoming more civically engaged.
“As a teacher, I instill in my students the importance of standing up for what you believe in and reinforce their ability to bring about the change they want to see. It is for this reason that my message from the beginning has been about standing up for what’s right: reforming our broken property tax system, defending heath care protections for people with pre-existing conditions, demanding safe classrooms for our children, and standing up for women’s health.
“In the months ahead I look forward to continuing to walk door-to-door, making phone calls and hosting events to connect with constituents and advancing the discussion of how to make state government more effective for them. I will listen to everyone in the district and ensure all voices are heard.”
